Founded in 1983 by James Price, a longtime associate and personal friend of Sanford Meisner, the Studio provides rigorous professional training rooted in discipline, emotional truth, and practical application. Under the direction of Founding Director James Price and Associate Director John Grabowski, the Studio maintains a focused, conservatory-style environment designed for actors committed to long-term artistic growth.
The Studio offers:
• A full-time Six Week Acting Conservatory
• A Two-Year Acting Conservatory Program - in a structured, multilevel Conservatory track for developing actors seeking comprehensive part-time training
• Advanced classes for working professionals - Monologue Audition, Scene Study / Rehearsal Technique
• Acting for Beginners - Introduction to Meisner, a ten-week, foundational course
• Intro to Meisner - Acting Technique, a ten-week foundational course in Sanford Meisner's approach to actor training
• Discipline-specific training in On Camera Audition Technique, Voice and Speech, Foreign Accent Reduction, Stage and Screen Violence, Playwriting, Directing, and more
Training is further strengthened through the Studio’s resident theatre company, Chelsea Repertory Company, and its development arm, Chelsea Rep LABs, which provide actors, directors, and writers with practical performance opportunities beyond the classroom.
