"The writer should never be ashamed of staring. There is nothing that does not require his attention." - Flannery O'Connor
The Playwriting Workshop classes are led by two well established New York playwrights: Jeremy Kareken, a published Broadway playwright who teaches writing at NYU and is also an accomplished actor, and Edward Einhorn, a playwright, director, translator, librettist, theater journalist, and novelist.
In addition to teaching the Playwriting Workshop classes, Mr. Kareken and Mr. Einhorn each oversee monthly sessions of Chelsea Rep’s Playwriting LAB under the auspices of Chelsea Repertory Company.
The Playwriting LAB is held on the second Saturday of each month and offers both current and former playwriting students the opportunity to submit new work. Selected pieces are presented in directed readings featuring actors and directors drawn from The Acting Studio’s alumni community.

Creative Reset w/ Andrea Navedo - Online is designed for artists who want to pause, reassess, and realign—whether at the start of their career or at any moment when clarity feels needed. Rather than beginning with strategy or outcomes, the work starts by reconnecting you to why you create. From that place, you can build a supportive structure around your creative life—so your path forward feels sustainable, meaningful, and true.
This small, intensive class, limited to eight students, is designed for non-native English speakers and bilingual individuals, including actors and business professionals, who wish to reduce strong native language accents and speak English with greater clarity and confidence. It is taught by an ESL-certified instructor; online or in-person one on one instruction is also available.

This class is an exploration of playwriting and its basic fundamentals. Students may choose to write a monologue, a short work, or a longer play. You may develop and refine an existing script or begin an entirely new one.
In class, students’ work is read aloud by the group, followed by discussion and response, which often sparks new ideas and further writing for everyone involved. Writing for actors requires an understanding of the methods actors use to bring a playwright’s words to life. In this class, students learn the subtle techniques characters use to influence one another, as well as how to construct situations that are exciting and filled with tension.
This class is offered in both A, IN PERSON, and B, ONLINE formats. Please indicate your preference, A or B, when applying.

Very few actors know what to do with their script beyond just memorizing their lines. While knowing your lines is important, it is only about 5% of the work an actor needs to do. This class focuses on the other 95% of the actors work in regard to understanding how to analyze the text, and make acting choices which become the foundation of their performance.
