OVERVIEW

The Acting Studio - New York conducts in-person (only) masterclass intensives in Meisner Acting Technique, Levels 1 & 2 (Sept/Oct) and Scene Study / Rehearsal Technique (April/May). These bi-annual classes are conducted in English by James Price, a direct first-generation protege of Meisner and the founding director of The Acting Studio - New York.* In Rome Mr. Price collaborates with Gabrio Gentilini, Laura Ruocco at Teatro Golden (Via Taranto, 36, 00182 Roma RM, Italy) and in Cairo, exclusively, with Amr Gamal at Aalam Tany (63 elnady street, Maadi, Cairo Governorate 4212246, Egypt). Merit Scholarships Awarded
Merit Scholarships are awarded at the end of these sessions to a select number of students.* These scholarships enable recipients to participate in six or ten-week acting classes or programs at The Acting Studio - New York in New York City. Additionally, participants who are not awarded scholarships receive a 30% discount on all classes offered at The Acting Studio - New York. The scholarships and discounts are valid for two years after notification.
* To qualify, student must demonstrate promise, maintain perfect attendance and have a comfortable level of English skills.

Administrative & Operational Clarification

The International Masterclasses conducted in Rome, Cairo, and Hamburg are offered in collaboration with trusted local studio partners and are hosted and administered independently within each country. Although James Price personally teaches every masterclass, The Acting Studio – New York does not operate or administratively control these programs abroad.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

6-Day Master Classes in Meisner Technique

LEVEL 1: is an exciting, 6-day intensive program designed to immerse students in Sanford Meisner's renowned system of training actors. Over the course of six days, you'll embark on a transformative journey, developing essential acting skills through a carefully structured progression of exercises, just as Mr. Meisner intended. Our studio's Level 1 master class introduces you to Meisner’s acting principles of "the theatrical art of self-revelation" that focuses on skill development for living truthfully moment by moment under imaginary circumstances. You'll start with the foundational word repetition exercise, progressing to independent activities, justification, objectives, the door work, three-moment exercise and heightened circumstances all of which lay the groundwork for authentic pure improvisation rooted in the reality of doing. In addition, you will learn two line-memorization techniques: line rehearsal by rote and conversational reality. At the end, you'll apply everything you've learned to scripted dialogues, bringing yourself to life with newfound depth and authenticity.

Join us for this immersive experience and unlock your potential as an actor. Classes meet over six days, providing an intensive and rewarding exploration of the Meisner Technique. Please note that a mandatory a one-hour outside practice session with a designated partner is required of all participants.
(LEVEL 1 is open to serious beginners with good English skills; experience is preferred.)

*LEVEL 2: continues your journey in the art of self-revelation by building on the skills acquired in Level 1. This course introduces advanced methods, including mastering lines through the working reading process, emotional preparation, making purposeful interpretive choices, addressing physical and speech impediments, nuanced line interpretation, script analysis, narrating personal stories from distinct perspectives, and engaging in character work with Spoon River monologues and applying all to a scene. *(Requires our studio's Level 1 skills, many of which are not all or properly taught in prior Meisner training with others.)

Scene Study / Rehearsal Technique :

The 6-Day Scene Study/Rehearsal Technique is an advanced hybrid class that examines not only scene work, but how an actor is actually working. Created and taught by James Price, founding director of The Acting Studio – New York and a close friend and protégé of Sanford Meisner, this class reflects a lifetime of teaching, directing, and working with actors at the highest professional level. Mr. Price teaches this approach internationally. This class represents a rare opportunity to study with a first generation master Meisner instructor and his Meisner-based rehearsal process that is not taught elsewhere.
