The Industry Showcase Performance Workshop is the third and final level of The Acting Conservatory Program and is open exclusively to students who have successfully progressed through the program without interruption.
Taught by Studio Associate Director John Grabowski, the workshop is the culmination of the actor’s training in Intro to Meisner, Meisner Techniques 1 & 2, Voice & Speech 1 & 2, Stage Violence, Singing for Actors, and Monologue Workshop, completed during Levels 1 and 2 of the Conservatory.
The workshop focuses on developing ensemble performance skills, professional rehearsal techniques, and the practical application of the actor’s training. Through exercises and scene work, students rehearse a fully staged production developed in conjunction with Chelsea Repertory Company.
Throughout the workshop, students also meet with industry guests and working professionals, including a professional headshot photographer, manager, casting director, fellow actors, and former Acting Studio graduates. These guests speak with the students about the realities of the profession and participate in question-and-answer sessions covering such areas as professional representation, casting, auditions, headshots and résumés, and building and sustaining a career as a working actor.
As part of their professional preparation, participants develop the materials necessary to enter the industry. By the completion of the program, each actor will have a professional headshot and acting résumé and be prepared to begin—or continue pursuing—a professional career as a working actor.
The program culminates in a professionally produced Industry Acting Showcase, presented before a public audience and invited industry professionals, including agents, managers, and casting directors. Each year, an average of 25 industry professionals attend the Showcase or view the recorded performances, providing graduating actors with opportunities to make professional contacts and introduce their work to the industry.
This combination of advanced actor training, professional production experience, direct interaction with working industry professionals, career preparation, and an Industry Showcase provides graduating actors with an experience offered by few independent acting studios in New York City.
Students who successfully complete all three levels of The Acting Conservatory Program are awarded a Certificate of Completion.
Admission is by program advancement only. To qualify, students must have successfully participated in The Acting Conservatory Program without interruption.
