Directing II

Cost: $500. Students are required to direct a one-act play
Term: 8 weeks
Apply Now

Limited to 10 students
Prerequisite: Directing I

Directing II is where directors move from training into production. Following successful completion of Directing I, students mount a published one-act play for a workshop production presented by the Chelsea Rep LAB in public performances as part of SUMMERFEST 2026: ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL, held in August.

Each director selects a published one-act play and takes full responsibility for the production, including pre-production research and analysis, auditions, casting from a pool of Studio-trained actors, and directing the play through the complete rehearsal process. Directors work under the close guidance of Chelsea Repertory Company director John Grabowski and Studio faculty.

Throughout the process, directors are encouraged to audit a variety of acting classes at the Studio to deepen their understanding of the actor’s process and working vocabulary. This immersive experience demands clarity, leadership, and decisive storytelling in a professional rehearsal environment.

Qualified directors will be offered Studio LAB membership and are encouraged to continue directing with the company in future productions and events.

Directing I is a prerequisite.
