The Acting Studio – New York offers a series of coaching sessions to help actors auditioning for BFA and MFA auditions. You will work with a team of experienced Studio professionals who will guide you step by step through this challenging process.

You will receive help with selecting appropriate material.  The selection of material is key to most training programs that will typically require a contemporary monologue, a classical monologue in verse, and sixteen bars of a song.  The auditioning actor should also have two alternate monologues prepared that contrast their main selections.  You will receive guidance in selecting material from different coaches who have a wide-ranging knowledge of contemporary, modern classic, classical material, and musical theater to help you find a repertoire of monologues and a song that showcase your individuality as an actor and show your “fit” with a school.

Additionally, you will receive help with the preparation of the audition material.  The focus is on helping you create the imagined reality of a scene partner in the audition that will allow spontaneity and behavioral choices to emerge in the audition.  The work at the Studio is grounded in the Meisner acting technique, and our acting coaches are experts in helping actors apply the techniques Mr. Meisner pioneered with the Group Theatre and at the Neighborhood Playhouse to the audition process.

When the audition requires a song, this package will assist you in finding appropriate musical material with which to audition and will lead you into interpreting the song through the lens of the lyrics. For non-singing actors, fears can be overcome and confidence can be established with the approach that songs are merely monologues first and melodies second.

You will also be guided in completing the final draft of your personal statement.  The personal statement is integral in the application process and should clearly express your fitness for a professional training program.

Finally, you will receive help in negotiating the dynamics of the audition room with confidence and grace.  You will receive help in understanding what to expect in the first round of the auditions and in the call backs.  We will help you to understand what you can you do to best meet the expectations of the auditors.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not for beginning actors with little to no acting experience.

You must apply at least three months prior to your first scheduled audition. It is best to start the process at least six to twelve months prior.
