Foreign Accent Reduction

Cost: $450 (class may be repeated for $225.)
Term: 6 weeks

LIMITED TO 8 Students

Foreign Accent Reduction class is designed for students whose first language is not English, and for bilingual students who speak English with a strong native language accent. It is appropriate not only for actors, but also for business professionals and others who wish to speak English with greater clarity and confidence, and is taught by an ESL-certified instructor.

Students will learn to isolate and identify English sounds that do not exist in their native language and practice producing these sounds in a natural, fluid manner to reduce accent interference. Breathing techniques that support clearer pronunciation and articulation will be introduced and practiced. The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) will be used to identify and correct habitual speech patterns.

Students will then transition to storytelling and monologue work, focusing on clear speech with minimal native language pronunciation issues. Emphasis will be placed on phrasing, inflection, rhythm, and ease of delivery.

Through these identification and practice skills, students will gain greater confidence and freedom when speaking English.

This class may be repeated one additional time at 50% off the original tuition.
