I wanted to create a place where actors not only could study acting but one where they could also gain invaluable, practical experience by actually doing it in performance. Since its first inception over 30 years ago, the Studio has provided students with the kind of professional actor training needed to develop themselves into first-rate craftsmen. The Studio has also provided them with a home-base wherein they can gain experience outside the classroom which complements their classroom training and helps them in the transition from the classroom into the acting industry.
Unique to The Acting Studio - New York is that beyond the classroom experience, the studio fosters a community of artists which provides our actors/directors/playwrights-in-training the opportunity to participate in a variety of rehearsal, readings, open-class demonstrations, competitions and performance venues with our staff and other working professionals. Through our resident theatre company, Chelsea Repertory Company, and its experimental offspring, the Chelsea Rep LAB, all of this is offered in addition to other projects that arise throughout each year.
