Welcome to the Studio

When I founded The Acting Studio, Inc., almost 30 years ago in 1983, I wanted to create a place where actors not only could study acting but one where they could also gain invaluable, practical experience by actually doing it.  Since that time, the Studio has not only provided its students with the finest, top notch, professional actor training  needed to develop themselves into first-rate craftsmen, but we have also provided them with a home-base wherein they can gain priceless experience outside the classroom that complements their studio training and helps them through the transition from the classroom to the professional industry. 

Unique to The Acting Studio, Inc. is that beyond the classroom experience, the studio fosters a community of artists which provides our actors/directors/writers-in-training the opportunity to participate in a variety of rehearsal, readings, open-class demonstrations, competitions and performance venues with our staff and other working professionals.   Through our resident theatre company, Chelsea Repertory Company, and its experimental offspring, the Chelsea Rep LAB, all of this is offered in addition to other projects that arise throughout each year. 

The training program at the studio is designed for those people matriculating from their university training to the New York community, and for those who find it necessary to work to support themselves while they train at the same time.  The studio is conveniently well-situated “in-residence” in the professional atmosphere of the Shetler Studios & Theatre Complex which hosts a great many industry-related endeavors including film and theatre companies, casting agents,  and networking companies, as well as two off-off Broadway performance spaces and many classroom/rehearsal studios.

Whereas many places of study in New York are quick to sell acting classes of all types, very few are committed to provide you with an affordable, comprehensive, first-rate foundation in basic training and practical experience, and professional mentoring.  At The Acting Studio, Inc. we manage to keep your tuition affordable so you only pay for the training.  After all, that is the most important thing you will take with you.   At the Studio there are no pass along costs associated with maintaining an expensive chunk of New York real estate, a large advertising budget and sizeable administrative staff.
